Janay Reliford, a Kansas City native and Westport High School graduate, has dedicated her life to empowering youth and creating meaningful opportunities. Her own experiences—receiving the Ewing Marion Kauffman “Project Choice” scholarship and navigating the challenges of teen motherhood—fueled her passion for mentorship and youth development.

Motivated to make a difference, Janay earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Central Missouri State University and a Master’s in Social Work Administration from the University of Kansas, equipping her with the knowledge and skills to turn her vision into action.

In 2000, Janay founded Camp C.H.O.I.C.E (Children Having Opportunities in Creating Environments), a program designed to provide youth with life-enriching experiences, guidance, and mentorship to make positive choices. By 2006, she solidified her commitment by officially registering the camp as an S Corporation, laying the groundwork for a lasting impact on the Kansas City community.

Through her leadership, Camp C.H.O.I.C.E continues to inspire youth to embrace their potential, build confidence, and cultivate strong support networks. Janay’s tireless efforts ensure that every young person has access to the resources, guidance, and encouragement needed to create a future full of possibility.
