Our mission is to provide youth with enriching experiences that support their spiritual, physical, educational, and social growth, empowering them to thrive now and in the future.

Our vision is to teach "LIFE LESSONS" that cultivate a deep understanding of humanity, the world around us, and the journey of navigating life. Guided by God's gift of choice, we empower youth to make decisions that positively impact their lives and communities.

This vision became the foundation for Camp C.H.O.I.C.E. (Children Having Opportunities in Creating Environments), which was first developed through a business plan competition sponsored by the Kauffman Foundation and Penn Valley Community College. More than just a camp, Camp C.H.O.I.C.E. is a transformative program designed to equip young people with the tools, guidance, and experiences necessary to make informed, positive decisions. Through mentorship, leadership training, and community engagement, the program fosters confidence, resilience, and purpose—helping youth navigate life with intention and success.

FOUNDER & CEO

Janay Reliford

Janay Reliford, a Kansas City native and graduate of Westport High School, has always been driven by a passion for youth empowerment. As a recipient of the Ewing Marion Kauffman “Project Choice” scholarship, she recognized early on the power of opportunity and mentorship in shaping lives. This passion led her to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Central Missouri State University and a Master’s degree in Social Work Administration from the University of Kansas—both of which deepened her commitment to community impact.

Her vision for youth development was deeply personal. After tragically losing her mother in a car accident at the age of 15, Janay faced a series of difficult challenges that ultimately shaped her purpose. Navigating life as a teenage mother with limited resources and direction, she discovered the transformative power of faith and choice. Determined to help others avoid the struggles she endured, she envisioned a space where young people could develop leadership skills, build confidence, and cultivate strong support networks.

In 2000, this vision took root when she conceptualized Camp C.H.O.I.C.E. (Children Having Opportunities in Creating Environments)—a program designed to provide youth with life-enriching experiences, mentorship, and guidance in making positive decisions. In 2006, she took a pivotal step by registering Camp C.H.O.I.C.E. as an S Corporation, setting the foundation for what would become a transformative initiative.

Today, Janay remains devoted to empowering youth and families, ensuring that every young person has access to the resources, support, and opportunities they need to succeed. Through Camp C.H.O.I.C.E., she continues to inspire others to embrace the power of their choices and create a future filled with purpose and possibility.
